“Between the ages of twenty and forty we are engaged in the process of discovering who we are, which involves learning the difference between accidental limitations which it is our duty to outgrow and the necessary limitations of our nature beyond which we cannot trespass without impunity.”

have a great weekend .

a very merry Christmas

24 Dec

With truffle butter warming, cookies baking and brussels sprouts a’ brewing it could not smell or be more Christmassy here.

A very merry and bright Christmas to you and yours.

the nutcracker

21 Dec

Whether or not you grew up in a big city like I did, or in a small town, it is likely that you have seen, heard or been a part of some iteration of The Nutcracker.

To me, The Nutcracker marks that Christmas is right around the corner- it means things are merry and bright.

Over the years, I have danced with my mother in the aisle ways, sipped hot coco at intermission with friends and even squirmed in my seat when one of the dancers has a particularly nasty slip-up.

This year, just as I did when growing up in San Francisco, I visited the War Memorial Opera House for one of the most beautiful portrayals of The Nutcracker the world has to offer (in my opinion). With a 5-year-old seated on my lap, this performance was one of the loveliest, since I could experience the wonder and beauty again through an entire different lens.

So, with the Holidays upon us and Christmas less than a week away (!!!), take some time to think about your favorite Holiday traditions, and the people who make them all the more special.

The weekend is approaching and the  promise of a relaxing one hangs before me. I can’t help but reminisce about leisurely brunches past…

Ah, the glory of the bottomless mimosa brunch. Although this is round two here for me at Eva in West Hollywood, it was no-less the quaint and lovely than it was the first time.

This past go-round I took it easy on the mimosas and instead enjoyed the delightful company on a chilly LA morning. Feasting on rich homemade granola and a delicate mushroom and fresh pea omelette, I couldn’t have found a better way to start the day…

*actual tree I drove solemnly by

It has sure been blustery and chilly this past week. I know I have been tossed about quite a bit. Time to batten down the hatches before the Holidays and finish out the business at hand before moving on to bigger and better things, I think.
